Let's not all laugh at the exit of the two Manchester clubs from the UEFA Champions League this week. When there are losers there are also winners. Think of Channel 5's opportunity to increase advertising revenue with increased audiences on a Thursday night when the two clubs play in the Europa League.

ZenithOptimedia predicts that global ad expenditure will end this year at US$464 billion, 3.5% higher than in 2010, then accelerate to US$486 billion - a 4.7% growth - despite the continuing slowdown in Europe and fears that its debt crisis will get much worse.

New research launched today (1st December) by IPC Media has found that 50% of consumers think that advertising on premium content sites is well matched to the sites. This compares to 28% for portal sites and 30% for social networking sites.

Most of the online UK national newspapers saw an increase in traffic in October with MailOnline continuing to draw in the most traffic, according to data released today by ABC.

Nearly forty million people accessed the internet in the UK throughout the month of October. According to data released by online measurement company UKOM the unique audience for the month totalled at 39.9 million, growing only by 140,000 since September.
