The news that the two major agency systems, DDS and MediaBank, are planning to merge, had been on the rumour mill for a little while - but it stunned many when it was officially announced this week. An IBC debate, 'Changing the Advertising Paradigm', convinced few at this week's Amsterdam confex that the core TV advertising paradigm would change in the short to mid-term, but did illustrate the activity and opportunity growing up around television.

I have been following the Athletics World Championships this week, as I am sure many of you have too. I hadn't realised until I went to tune in for the first time that Channel 4 had snaffled this from the Beeb - and taken Michael Johnson with them.
