Cast your mind back to Thursday 26 July. Back then it's probably true to say that a fair few people within the media (and some outside of it) were pretty negative about the Olympics. Maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but we certainly weren't expecting the spectacular show Danny Boyle laid on for us.

ITV1 enjoyed a 3.6% increase in network revenue for May, according to latest agency estimates. It was the only broadcaster in our analysis to record a rise, with Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV Breakfast all posting year on year declines.

In the perfect example of 'losing the battle but winning the war', the final of ITV1's Britain's Got Talent achieved the highest ratings for May. Just under 12.6 million viewers stuck through the two-hour plus marathon on 12 May to see Pudsey the dancing dog go walkies with a £500,000 cash prize (oh and the chance to entertain royalty).

A fairly non-remarkable month was dominated once again by the battle of the two major reality shows. Coming out on top was BBC One's The Voice UK, with the 14 April episode proving to be the most-watched single edition of the month with just under 12 million viewers.

The broadcasters' network revenue results for March show lots of change once again. ITV1 was the only broadcaster to enjoy an increase on March 2011, up 1.4%.

This month saw the return of Simon Cowell to Britain's Got Talent, along with new judges David Walliams and Alesha Dixon. The talent show easily topped the programmes rankings in March, with 11.5 million viewers.

Following months of positive figures Channel 5 saw a -21.1% decline in network revenue in February, while Channel 4 enjoyed a 20% increase.
