40.3 million people made up the UK’s online universe in May, the third time in 2011 were unique users rose past the 40million mark. The data, from online measurement company UKOM, shows no overall rise in users but top brands saw spikes in traffic over the month.

April saw the UK's online audience pass the 40 million mark for the second time in 2011. According to data released by online measurement company UKOM, the online population only grew by .9% period on period - the extra 358,000 users bringing the total UK audience up to 40.3 million for the month of April.

Data recently released by Kantar Media shows that the online population in Great Britain grew by just under 2% in the past year. A monthly average of 37.5 million people were online in GB from January to March 2011.

March brought an increase in overall users for the first time in 2011, according to data released by UKOM. There were signs of recovery from the post-Christmas slump with a boost of 750,000 users to the online population, totalling just under 40 million for the month.

This was the second month in a row that the total monthly audience dropped, resulting in 39.2 million, down 1.2 million users from December.

The UK's online population fell slightly in November, according to recent data released by UKOM. While some consumers turned to the net for their Christmas purchases, avoiding both the British winter and the crowds of shoppers on the 'real' high streets, there were just over half a million less people online than in the month of October.

Nearly 40 million people went online over the course of September according to new data released by UKOM. A UK audience of 39 million 505 thousand people made up the online universe over the month, up by 640 thousand since January.
